What plans for weekend?

Posted by: awestriker on: July 5, 2008

Orkut is one of the power socializing tool in internet. Well no this ain;t going to be another preaching on Orkut but something about the scraps.
I see that many a times, when a scrap pops ¨What plans for weekend?¨ the answer is ¨nothing planned¨. Surprisingly I find these so called nothing planned with their admirers and well-wishers ;)

Here is what I have noticed for ¨nothing planned¨ :
1. Mostly they will be with their boyfriends/girlfriends or time-pass. The most obvious places where you bump into them – movie halls, outskirt restaurants/resorts/theme parks/amusement parks, in each other´s rooms ;) .
2. Secondly they can be sleeping like some disease called lethargy creeps into them on weekend.
3. Maybe they would have spend Friday or Saturday in high spirits, and so the next morning its like ¨I am having short term amnesia¨ and down with spirits.
4. Else some break-up, misfortune has happened and the entire length of day, becomes a sorrow-day.

Seldom it is a genuine reason.
What other reasons you have noticed, pitch it in.

Inflation – A Necessary Evil

Posted by: awestriker on: July 5, 2008

Long time, no see…Been through some transformation of place, work, living and all.

Already there were stark difference between prices in developed, developing and underdeveloped cities. Inflation is adding more woes to it. It is a serious problem affecting world over, and for the rest of us it as a necessary evil. I can strut my neck out and support these points for inflation.

1. Oil prices are northward, so preferably dip in car-two wheeler sales. Some relief for mother nature.

2. Increase in usage of public transport, compells governments to improve it and swindle less funds.

3. Increase in prices of day-to-day commodities, forces most of people to eat to live fit rather giving rise to gluttony.

4. Decrease in attrition in companies and enterprises, as shift doesn’t always mean a 30% hike.

5. Overuse of everything is reduced. Show-off/Flaunting by individuals is decreased.Saving nature increases.

6. Most important, we realize what we were wasting and how much is required for us to live.

Like every city has its own set problems, inflation is behaves much similar. Whatever it be, human being have the amazing ability to adjust, sustain and survive and that is the reason we are a superior species.

Lets sail through this period with constructive ideas, peace and harmony.

Be a breed apart. Be a Yawn.

Yawns. A breed apart. A worth GenXer.Perhaps, majority of you will be mistaken that I am tired, and I need a quick nap.

Lets have a thought. If we go back in time to compare our earning potential, ok, right to the point, our salaries. Many will be in chorus with me that it is some ‘n’ times more than their sole bread earner, at this age but 2 to 3 decades back.Young people in growing economy are wealthy, but how many lead a normal, down-to-earth and simple life. Countable numbers. Yawns expanded is Young And Wealthy but Normal and Simple. You see dumb and dull people. These are the ones who are actually shaping the world and saving the planet. Their thought process involves around the principle of life and simple living rather than any global delivery model. We can also strive and be a Yawns. The acronym comes from The Sunday Telegraph of London, which noted that an increasing number of rich young Britons are socially aware, concerned about the environment and given less to consuming than to giving money to charity.

Lookout for special groups in your city which help in mapping problems to real life and finally go ahead and solve them. Lead India by Times of India initiative is an example. Ifix is a worthwhile strive to fix potholes and other problems to ensure a smooth drive, when we are commuting to office. Create opportunities for unfortunate and less privilege. Babajob connects the rich with poor. It is a social-working and job site in India, with the idea that everyone deserves to get a better job. Surprisingly, it is founded by Microsoft employee and other IITians. A group of people can always create small task force and take up some activity. Bangalore BarCamp asks you to contribute by volunteering, speaking or giving talk ideas.Gated Communities, can always avail public transport and company provided transport to their workplace. These communities stay at same place, but do not have good bonding so Yawns can help it. I bet you, if you use a cycle to complete your daily errands and going to nearby places, you’ll be the talk of community.

Just to remind you that scientists and environmentalists have , after research and analysis, predicted that we may have a 10 year window to save our Mother Earth. Lets look forward, be socially aware, have concern about environment and try to take steps in doing so. Lets be a breed apart and wish that we celebrate mother’s day 10 years from now also.

Was cleaning my closet, and got hold of this ticket which reminds me Saarang’2008. An annual cultural festival at IIT, Chennai. The rock concert was scheduled on the last day and it was a great show by Prestorika. It was more of heavy metal and head banging.

Want to earn some money…..Did you cheat or got cheated?

Posted by: awestriker on: May 10, 2008

“So friend, are you interested to make some money? I mean you see the inflation, the sky-rocketing realty rates and even who knows what will happen to IT industry and likewise when new government in US comes into power. Outsourcing can be bottlenecked. Even you should have some other kind of income, apart from your normal active monthly income. A passive income. Well, I am going to tell you something which just requires you to convince few people( rather read as cheat them, make fool out of them) and get them hooked to this. A cheque comes to your door every month after few people are in the chain.”…Well these are words which on my colleague told me, and wanted me to join GoldQuest or QuestNet. I just asked him one question, how do you answer this that in this kind of scheme always more than 50% of people will be without any profit or earning? He kept quite and started giving me self-help lectures.

Now see the clever part..

1. Keep the investment rates very high, something around Rs.30,000 and make the high earning group like IT, Banking , realty professional join them. So overall this gets a good rating but I laugh on those qualified and dignified professional who are hooked onto this. Mainly because either they are on bench and everyone they be-friend is a potential target or else they have just returned from an onsite trip and they have lots at disposal.

2. Once high networth individual join, the entire pyramid scheme gets a good name. Then instead of calling it a MLM (Multi Level Marketing), they start calling it as NLM (Network Level Marketing). People are specially coached, it could be your own friend or colleague, to spread this. I was shocked to hear that in my firm, several times conference rooms were booked for these kind of sittings. Anyway whoever comes will think that a meeting is going on.

3. The mails which are generated to keep you in loop will address you as leader and sort of fiery motivational word straight out of some self-hep book. It gives you the kick to trap someone else. You may think you are becoming leader and start making castle in the air. In fact you are falling on your on meter. You are creating illusion to your conscience. You realize it later, when your own friends call you as cheat and behave differently.

4. They even tell you that the gold coin which you receive is in limited edition and has got special value etc. But its a just a normal coin, which will not fetch you even 50% of the money you invest. This is just a marketing gimmick. They get your trust by sending some gift.

Recenlty one of my friend was telling to spread this into the Indian Army, as people do not earn that much.Again this will be a hit among married army-men, as when they are away on field their wives will earn the bad name of fooling people. This is what happened when money enters your veins and head, you feel to milk anyone and everyone.

When these kind of schemes are banned in several underdeveloped nations like Nepal, Sri Lank then I feel surprised on what kind of conscience and intelligence people in India have to get involved.

Please avoid such kind of MLM, NLM or any other marketing. If surely that would have been successful, then Fortune 20 companies would have featured GoldQuest, QuestNet etc instead of leading investment banks and all. Invest in shares, mutual funds etc.Rather getting a gold coin of 5grammes, invest your Rs. 30,000 all in gold you will get a better return.

Here are some scans from world leading newspaper Times Of India, which published articles in the 1st week of May 2008. We read and forget. So in my opinion, these excerpts can be preserved and read in the years to come so that someone does not get into the trap.

When character is lost, your image and life goes for a toss, so do not get into these kind of activities for which you have to hide your face later. Walk this earth with your head on shoulders.

Indian IT biggies collaborate to weed fakes.

Posted by: awestriker on: December 4, 2007

It maybe that you are talented, hard-working but due to lack in communication skills you are unable to get a job.But I do no think, this should be a reason to fake your resume. All IT companies, in India respect and nurture talent. When people who are graduates in Hindi, can earn a plump job in Microsoft then why can’t you get into a good company.
Patience, is what you need to keep yourself going. But many candidates, take a shorter path to success and to get good jobs they fake their resume. I know quite a few of my friends who have done it.
Wipro, has started a commendable practice by sharing its fake candidates and recruitment agencies database with other organization.By now many fake employees, would have reached significant position in their organization but this is a very good move to filter out genuine from fakes.Like Government of India has started a Do Not Disturb Registry, where by registering ourselves we would not be pestered by marketing calls. The IT industry can very well share their database of fake candidates. This will prevent the candidate from getting into another organization, by just blabbering and the position could go to a suitable one. The Top five Indian IT companies TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Satyam and HCL Infosystems have to co-operate with each other on this front and once the initiative starts it will trickle down other mid-segment and lower-segment companies. Along with candidates are also the recruitment agencies, who provide enough support in answering verification calls and visits by the recruiting company. This helps them getting money from both the candidate and organization. There are scores of recruiting agency, and for their survival they work hand-in-glove with candidates. Organization should black list these also.
A combined effort in weeding out “fakes”, will definitely help in minimizing the “talent” crunch in IT industry.

Shell, the role model gasoline pump station.

Posted by: awestriker on: December 3, 2007

Generally, everyone has a role model. Take human beings, industries, economies, countries, cities etc.Its what you want to be. Its your dream come true, when you become.
Nearby to my house, precisely the place Vadapalani, has a Shell petrol/gasoline outlet.I am sure, whoever goes to fill petrol will have a pleasing experience. Discipline and greetings is what you can see there. The moment you drive in, there are separate channels for two wheelers and four wheelers ad other heavy vehicles. If you are on a two wheeler, with a pillion rider then they are requested to step down and stand near the exit. So nice, it reduces the clutter around filling pump. One gaze all around and you see, only females and physically handicapped operating as gasoline operators. You are sure to have a proud feeling of having Shell in your city. Once you are the filling pump, you are greeted with “Vanakkam”(i.e the Tamil way of welcoming people) following which you will asked which variant of petrol would you like to fill. This sweeps you of your feet, as how the hell on earth can people wish like this as in India, we wish only known persons or only when get introduce to someone. We do not waste wishes on every bystander, shopkeeper or gasoline operator. If you are sitting on your bike, then you are requested to get down and stand holding the bike. Maybe some rule, that we should not fill petrol in bike by sitting on it.I am sure, the welcome is going to do the trick and moreover the requesting person is either a lady or a person who is less fortunate with limbs and you get down. After the gasoline is filled, here is the best part, Shell filling pumps have a bill printer attached to the machine. Its like we get phone bill, or the ATM charge slip. You get the bill at the instant. Now which damn petrol pump, has this facility. I have filled with Indian Oil, HP, BP, IBP, Reliance none have it. I had almost similar, not cloe, experience while filling gasoline in Chandrasekharpur HP Petrol Pump in Bhubaneswar,Orissa. No greetings, but you get your windshield cleaned promptly.
You go out of the station, with a memory that it was such a nice experience. The kind which you have in India when you enter a big restaurant or hotel, or a known roadside Dhaba. You return once again to fill when petrol/gas is over.
Now this can be a very good customer satisfaction role-model in every gasoline pump, which is inside the city. We can ask the pump owners to employ more women and people with some disability. Tell them to emulate the Shell way. There is no need of bill print in gasoline pump, but a a small welcome will make every customer loyal to you. You know, it is finally the feel-good-factor that works!
